“Any poker player who loves the game dreams of making the World Series of Poker final table,” Gates said at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, shortly after the starting field of 8,569 was whittled to nine. For most of the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event final table, he looked like just that. Ensan entered with a massive lead and only strengthened his grip on things over the course of the first two days, toting 63 percent of the chips into three-handed play.
After approximately four hours of play, Louisiana’s Joseph Hebert, who began the final table as a big chip leader, came out on top to win the tournament for $1,553,256, the trophy, and a heads-up shot at the bracelet and another seven-figure score.
Not too shabby for a man who got in via a $300 satellite on WSOP.com.
Hebert shares his joy with Sarah Herring as he soaks up this moment and gives the glory to his mom in heaven. But the journey is not over for Hebert as he must prepare for the $1,000,000 freeroll against Damian Salas.
